Pachygronthidae

Overview

The Pachygronthinae were considered until recently by most workers to be a subfamily within the Lygaeidae. We have followed the revision by Henry (1997) and recognised them at family rank.

Pachygronthidae are seed feeding bugs encountered on the vegetation of monocots such as Poaceae (grasses), Cyperaceae (sedges) and Restoniaceae. There is limited other available information on the Australian Pachygronthidae.

Distribution

Six genera and 8 species are found in Australia, one of which, Stenophyella macerta , is found Australia wide.
